Then, one day, I walked into my local Barnes and Noble and picked up a little book called You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero. The price I paid for this wonderful little book was hardly a pittance considering the dramatic improvements that I’ve seen in my life after taking its advice to heart. Jen Sincero is a world renowned life and success coach, and she has become a bestselling author because of how much her books can do to help people. I’d never heard of her before I picked up You Are a Badass, but I wish I had heard of her twenty years earlier.
The book contains twenty seven chapters, but all of them are short enough that you can read one a day and really understand it, even rereading it if you need to, until you get and take to heart the message and advice. The way I did it was that I read one chapter a day for a month ñ I read it in the morning after I woke up, and then I read it again after I went to bed. It’s amazing how just one day of thinking about something can really change your perspective on it, so much so that you get new realizations and come to terms with how truly right the lessons and inspirations in You Are a Badass are.
It’s not some kind of zen koans book, though ñ the messages aren’t cryptic and you don’t need to be a psychologist to understand what she’s saying. That’s the wonder of Jen Sincero’s writing ñ she brings you to realizations that you would almost certainly never have made on your own through a number of techniques ñ there are stories that are as laugh out loud funny as they are inspiring and worthy of deep consideration, and there are some easy daily exercises to help you realize your true potential.
Ever since coming to terms with who I really am and the potential for greatness that I really have thanks to You Are a Badass, I’ve felt much better and I’ve broken through boundaries in my career that I never would have thought possible beforehand. I really do recommend that everyone read You Are a Badass ñ men and women, young and old, it’s got great stuff.
