stars_3-5 This book is tough if you just have the audio. I went and bought a hard copy after a few chapters because there is so much process. Loved listening while working through the actual book at the same time.

The book provides a great framework for emotional intelligence. The book offers a quantitative tool to measure the emotional intelligence quotient (EQ) with 66-odd practical steps to improve your EQ. This is probably the best book to improve your EQ. The book is divided into eight chapters. The first chapter is started with important facts to show how important EQ is to a person’s overall success and how little attention is paid to it by the majority of individuals. EQ and IQ are not related in any way. People with average IQs have outperformed people with higher IQs more than 70% of the time. In fact, EQ will account for about 58% of performance in any job you do. People with higher EQs make, at least, $29,000 more than people with lower EQ levels. EQ can be substantially increased with some effort. But only 36% of people are able to identify their own emotions as they unfold. The first and second chapters of the book go on to describe emotional intelligence and how they affect your day to day life. Emotional intelligence is briefly stated as one’s ability to recognize the emotions in one’s self and others as they unfold.

Chapter three of the book offers a framework to understand, measure, and improve one’s EQ. People who are high in self-awareness understand what satisfies and motivates them to do something. They are aware of which people and situations push their buttons. This is the foundation of developing one’s EQ skills. Chapter four shows you how to measure your EQ and creates a plan to improve it. The authors provide a way to assess your EQ in this chapter. The appraisal consists of more than 28 self-assessment questions to measure your EQ. Chapter five of the book reveals self-awareness strategies to improve your EQ levels. This chapter offers 15 strategies to improve your self-awareness. Chapter six of the book highlights 17-odd self-management strategies.

Chapter seven of the book reveals 17 different social awareness strategies that you can incorporate into your life right now. These strategies will help improve your awareness of other people in the society. Chapter eight is the final chapter of the book. It contains 17 relationship management strategies. These techniques will help you improve your relationships with other people around you.

In conclusion, the book offers important strategies to improve your EQ levels and succeed in your overall life. It offers an incredibly useful framework to get your head around EQ and start using emotional intelligence in your day to day lives. This will improve your overall life in the long run.
