Summary: Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens…Read more.
I love Game of Thrones!!!! This is the start of one of the greatest fantasy series of all time, and I just couldn’t put it down! George Martin does an incredible job of weaving everything together, and just when you think that one character is about do something, there’s a sudden twist! Incredible!!!
A little long but no question it’s an amazing story. I listened to this on a road trip with my daughter, and when we got to where we were going neither of us wanted to get out of the car it was so good! Must listen!

A Game of Thrones Audio Book Summary
The book’s main events take place on three fronts: Westeross, the land of the 7 Kingdoms, The East, or the land across the Narrow Seas, and in the North, at The Wall and beyond.
The first novel in the series introduces the main characters, many of whom persist throughout the entire series. Of the most important are the Starks of Winterfell, a powerful family in the North, King Robert Baratheon, who rules from King’s Landing, and the Lannisters, a powerful family married into royalty.
As the novel progresses, it becomes clear that the King is not well, and that his children might not be his own.
Meanwhile in the East, a young Daenerys Targaryn, sole surviving heir to a recently ousted dynasty, begins to come of age and gain power.
The novel ends with the death of King Robert and his closest allies, and a skirmish for power begins to unfold.
A Clash of Kings Audiobook Summary
With King Robert Baratheon dead, a number of heirs rise to claim the throne. His son Joffrey is installed as King, though questions of Joffrey’s legitimacy give rise to many other contenders, as it is believed that the late King had no children, and Joffrey is the child of Circe Lannister (Baratheon’s queen) and her brother, Jaime.
King Robert’s two brothers, Stannis and Renly, both claim the throne, and Robb Stark of Winterfell is declared King in the North, after the Lannisters murdered his father Ned, a friend of the late King.
Meanwhile, other contenders vie for parts of the kingdom, believing the United realm to have ended, and in the East the Daenerys continues to conquer cities, and marches closer to Westeross.
The novel ends with the Battle of Blackwater Bay, in which Joffrey’s forces defeat those of Stannis Baratheon, leaving him in power.
A Storm of Swords Audiobook Summary
Robb Stark, who is swiftly strengthening his hold on the North and marching South, is killed, along with his mother, and the Stark daughters attempt to flee the capital, King’s Landing, where they’d been trapped since the death of King Baratheon.
In the North, tensions rise as winter approaches, and legends of mysterious creatures North of the Wall come to play, including the infamous “white walkers,” zombie-like creatures that wake during multi-year winters.
Jon Snow, the bastard son of the late Ned Stark, is appointed to be Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, the bastion of misfit soldiers that guard the Wall and entrance to the Kingdom of Westeross from the North.
The novel ends with the murder of King Joffrey, leaving his weak younger brother Tommen on the Iron Throne.
A Feast for Crows Audiobook Summary
After the death of Joffrey and Tywin Lannister and the exile of Tyrion, the dwarf (by his sister Cersei) the Lannister’s power has clearly weakened, and a weak King Tommen occupies the throne, which is really ruled by his mother Cersei.
Arya Stark arrives in Bravos, where she begins her study of the many-faced rulers, a secret society of knights and protectors. Her sister Sansa, on the other hand, is delivered back to Winterfell and forced to marry the new ruler’s heir.
In the North, the Night’s Watch face off against Mance Rayder and his people, and “Winter” approaches.
In the East, Daenerys Targaryn continues to conquer new cities, with her mercenary army and powerful 3 dragons, who are now grown.
A Dance with Dragons Audiobook Summary
In the fifth installment, Jon Snow, as the new Lord Commander of the NIght’s Watch, attempts to make peace with their long-time enemies North of the Wall, in preparation for the great Winter and rise of the white walkers that is to come.
Stannis Baratheon re-emerges, as he has rebuilt an army and marches through the North, preparing for an attack on Winterfell.
Further South, the Lannisters face challenges, as Cersei empowers a religious order in King’s Landing. While she originally uses this order to subversively attack her political allies The Tyrell’s (among whom is the new queen, Tommen’s wife), the sect quickly turns against her, and arrests her for her moral sins as well.
Meanwhile, Daenery Targaryn begins to face challenges in the East, as he quest to free slave-cities puts her in trouble with longstanding and powerful dynasties unwilling to part with their traditions and power.
